CEZ Group is one of the largest European energetic companies, the leader in the Czech electricity market with a vision to be the leader in the power market of Central and Southeastern Europe. CEZ Group operates in a number of countries in this region. The successful acquisition of distribution companies in Bulgaria and Romania, as well as power plants in Poland and Bulgaria, have opened up new markets for the Group.
As at 31 December 2006 CEZ Group, including the parent company, encompassed 98 business entities, 66 of which were based in the Czech Republic and 32 in other countries.
The goal of the acquisition of the Hungarian CZ-2005 Magyarorszag Kft., whose business name has been changed by CEZ to CEZ Hungary Ltd., is to create better conditions for power trade in Hungary and provide access to the Hungarian transmission system. Since March 2006, CEZ Hungary Ltd. has had a valid license to trade electrical energy.
In December 2007 CEZ Group and MOL Group signed a joint venture agreement and created a strategic alliance. The joint venture will focus on gas-fired power generation and related gas infrastructure in 4 countries of Central and Southeastern Europe, including Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia. The first major investment is the planned construction of CCGTs at the refineries of the MOL group in Bratislava (Slovakia) and the Százhalombatta (Hungary). In both locations the installed capacity will be 800 MW.
A critical part of CEZ Groups´ mission is to maximize returns and ensure long-term growth in shareholder value. To accomplish this, CEZ Group has rolled out three major strategic initiatives: Operational excellence, international expansion and plant portfolio renewal.
