The electricity provider CEZ has prepared a completely new and revolutionary product range, which is to be launched on the newly opened market at the beginning of next year. These include several types of electricity provision and supply, each of which is characterized by a distinct color and, more importantly, by a different price. Each color represents a different product, but by extension also a certain section of the output generated by CEZ power plants that cover the particular supply.

In the first half of this year the CEZ joint-stock company succeeded in cutting down its costs by 802 million CZK, in comparison with last year, and also managed to increase its total revenue by 923 million CZK up to 30.9 billion CZK. Profit after taxation increased by 1.6 billion CZK (i.e. by more than 52.1%) and totalled 4.6 billion CZK, which was due to increased revenues, reduced costs and lower income tax.

The Power Company CEZ has perceived that, due to political tensions occurring between Austria with the Federal republic of Germany and the Czech republic in connection with the situation in the field of power industry, the conditions for placing of domestic products in neighbouring countries show trends to worsen.

"In the first Quarter of this year our company achieved the net profit amounting to 3,294 CZK millions, i.e. by 357 millions CZK (by 12.2 percent) more in comparison with the previous year. According to international accounting standards (IAS) the net income made 4,741 CZK millions so that, in the inter-yearly period, an increase of 656 CZK millions (by 16 percent) was realized. This increase was achieved thanks to continuous decrease of our expenses and due to higher earnings..."

The power Company CEZ, through an external attorney´s office, lodged a complaint with the authorities responsible for criminal proceedings with the request to investigate activities of the former board chairman and the former board member and the former general manager in the affair of conclusion of a Contract for the right of option between the companies CEZ, Vivendi and Vivendi Telecommunication International.

The Power Company CEZ announces that it will not make public the preliminary business results of the year 2000 according to the international accounting standards (IAS) in March 2001, in spite of the fact that it had originally been notified during its press conference on February 28, 2001. These results shall be made available to the public in the next month, i.e. in April.

Nuclear Power Plants in Dukovany and in Temelin welcome visitors in a number of annually more than 50,000 persons coming mainly from various schools but also a wide range of the public in the Czech Republic as well as from abroad (in the majority from Austria and Germany) very often take advantage of the chance. Anybody has just to pick up the phone and reserve his taking part in a group visit with professional guides assisting during the round trip inside the plants.

"In the second half of last year we have introduced a number of rationalization projects to achieve remarkable increase in work productivity. If seen from the viewpoint of money earnings per employee, it increase by 5 % and, from the viewpoint of electricity production, its increase even made 18 percent. It had been the radical change in the management and organization chart of CEZ that firstly brought about decrease in number of management levels and secondly diminished number of management officers..."

Last year, the production of electricity in CEZ increased by more than 11 per cent in comparison with 1999 and, with the value of 50 842 GWh, represented a record performance since the foundation of CEZ in 1992. It is the extended electric power export that can be found behind this increase, by means of which a compensation of 8.5 per cent fall in electricity sales to domestic customers could be managed.

Tightness checks of Unit One containment at Temelin nuclear power plant have started their second half. The twenty-four hour guaranteed measurements checking tightness of the containment at the positive pressure of 70kPa will be completed today at 8 p.m. The test proper in which fifty NPP and contractors' workers have been directly taking for five days part will be finished in the night from this 3rd to 4th August.
